Day 1 - August 23

Our flight from LAX left on schedule at 5:05 pm.  We arrived at Kona at 7:15 pm, just after sunset. Since the last time we stayed at Mark & Carol’s condo in the Mauna Lani Resort (in 2006), he has sold that one and bought one in the same complex, nearer the ocean. How close? Do we have a view? Too dark to tell - can’t wait to see in the morning!

Day 2 - August 24

We are starting to see what our view looks like.Wow!

From the condo. The signature 15th at Mauna Lani Golf Course. Tee on the left, bay in the middle, green on the right. When I played the course 8 years ago, I unexpectedly hit the green, so hit a second shot into the bay for the fun of it.

Day 2 - August 24

Woke up to a spectacular view! The condo is along the Mauna Lani Golf Course, near the signature 15th hole tee. It is a short walk down a lava trail to the shore.

We took a drive to the quaint town of Holualoa, just south and inland from Kona. We had intended to have breakfast at the cafe there, but since they weren’t open, we drove back to Kona to do some shopping.

We spent the afternoon at the Mauna Lani Resort beach. Will have to bring the snorkeling gear next time. The water is beautiful and warm. The air temperature is in the mid 80s.

We had dinner at Merriman’s Mediterranean Cafe at Waikoloa. We didn’t time things very well; by the time we returned to the condo, the sun had just set. Oh well, there’s always tomorrow!

Nope, that isn’t our transportation…
