Ozbrecht 2019 - Iceland & The Baltics
Stockholm 2, Sweden
August 31 - September 2

Stockholm's Hotel Nobis, our final stop. Hot chocolate and latte. Superb!

Our second-to-last day was spent in two historical towns north of Stockholm. First is Uppsala
Uppsala Cathedral

The martyr St. Laurentius

Uppsala Slott - castle

Linneanum - museum and gardens

The second town we visited was Sigtuna, a small town founded over 1,000 years ago

Stop for a quick snack

Food and a view
Sigtuna's town center consists of one long street full of Medieval architecture and shopping oportunities

Back to Stockholm and Hotel Nobis

Dinner is at Restaurang Prinsen, known for its Swedish Meatballs

Våra hemtrillade köttbullar

Day 2 - we enjoyed Stockholm's city sights. First was a boat excursion of Stockholm Bay and Lake Malaren

Hotel Diplomat

Gamla Stan, Stockholm's Old Town. In the background:
St. Gertrudes Tyska Kyrkan - Lutheran church

Vasa Museum

Stockholm Castle

Luxury apartments along Hammarby Sjö, the canal connecting the bay and lake

Entering the locks of Hammarbyslussen

Most of the municipalities around Lake Mälaren (which extends 75 miles east to west and 40 miles north to south) take their drinking water from the lake
In order to prevent sea water from the Baltic entering Lake Mälaren and in order to save water, the water level of the lake is regulated by opening and closing various sluice gates in Stockholm

A common pose throughout our trip, for all 4 of us!

Stockholm City Hall

Sailing races

Gröna Lund amusement park

The afternoon was spent on a self-guided walking tour of Gamla Stan. This is Kungliga Slottet, Sweden's royal palace

Sankt Nikolai Kyrka, the oldest church on Gamla Stan, and the seat of the Lutheran bishop of Stockholm

Stortorget ("The Grand Square") - Gamla Stan's public square

Mårten Trotzigs Gränd - we have seen some narrow streets on this trip; this was the narrowest. 36 steps, and 35 inches wide

Panorama, top to bottom

Let's walk it! (video)

Back to the square...

...and lunch and...

...shopping!!
