Day 3 - December 27
Kula & Lahina, Maui
Wedding Day!
Another beautiful, sunny day!
The wedding festivities are all in Kula, a wonderful town in the middle of the island. The town sits on the upslope of Haleakala, and is much cooler than the lowlands - if I lived on Maui, this is where I would want to live!
Our first event is a pre-wedding breakfast, hosted by Jordan & Heidi, at Kula Sandalwoods Restaurant. Everyone who will attend the wedding (I think it numbered 18) was there, so we had the chance to meet new friends.
From breakfast, we drove a short distance to Kula Botanical Garden. It was a long hard push to get Hillary's wheechair up the steep walking path to the grassy area where the wedding would take place. We had some time to wander about the garden - so beautiful!
The wedding was short, about 20 minutes (which I like!) The bride was beautiful, the groom handsome and smiling a lot! Chrissy, the officiant, did an outstanding job. The photographer was also excellent, as you can see from the pictures.
Kathy, Hillary and I spent the afternoon relaxing at the hotel. In the evening Howard and Alma hosted dinner at the Feast at Lele in Lahina. It was not officially a luau, but they had a show with dancers, muscians, and fire eaters. Wonderful - thanks, Howard & Alma!
When we arrived at the hotel to finish the day, as we were getting Hillary's wheelchair out of the back of the truck, and Hillary into the chair, the skies opened up and really drenched us! It would be the only significant rain we would get on the trip.
A wonderful day!!
